After Christ the Redeemer, the next MUST DO attraction in Rio de Janeiro is visiting Sugarloaf Mountain!

Sugarloaf is such a stark, steep, sheer mountain that stands proudly on the coastline and is a notable part of the Rio landscape.

You can take a series of cable cars to reach the top! My personal preference is to go right before sunset, so you can see the golden glow of the sun on the mountain and over the city, and then stay until it's dark to admire the view with all the lights.

This was our very last activity we did in Rio, just hours before we headed to the airport. It actually brought some tears to my eyes - the view was just so stunning and the trip to Rio had exceeded all my expectations. Reflecting on the amazing week while taking in the view was such a happy moment and I have the most glittery memories from this spot!

Picture 1 is from the top of Sugarloaf overlooking the city, Picture 2 is from the smaller Urca Hill looking up at Sugarloaf, and Picture 3 is from a different spot in Rio looking at Urca Hill + Sugarloaf.

This section of Charleston -- Rainbow Row -- is really well known for its multi-colored buildings, but I was totally delighted to see colorful buildings all over the city! (Peep pic #3 for another example!)

Charleston was EASILY the most colorful city I've visited in the United States (but if you know of any others that give it a run for its money, lmk!)

It's easy to feel happy with so much color all around you, don't you think?!

NASHVILLE RECOMMENDATIONS 🤠🤠

We spent last Saturday in Nashville! We did just a small section of what the city has to offer but had a fantastic time - really I'd highly recommend everything from our day there, and we'll for sure be going back many more times.

To Eat:
💥Five Sisters Donuts for breakfast

💥Biscuit Love for brunch/lunch (they close at 3pm) - the "What Lifts You" wings mural and the Nashville walls mural (1st and 3rd pics) are right around the corner from this restaurant.

💥Wild Horse Saloon for dinner - this is a bar/restaurant, and they have a mixture of live and recorded music, and a large dance floor where people mostly do line dances. There was often an employee out leading and demonstrating the line dances. It was very kid-friendly (we saw other kids there) and super fun.

To Do/See:
💥12 South area -- The Five Sisters bakery is right on 12 South, so explore after you eat donuts! There are a lot of cute shops and cafes along this street, plus a ton of murals!

💥Walk + explore Honky Tonk Highway in downtown

💥Centennial Park -- This park has greenspace, paths, and a playground, but the big attraction is the full scale replica of the Greek parthenon. It was cool!

Do you have a child that is totally your mini-me? (Or are you a carbon copy of one of your parents??)

I swear Natalie is like a small version of myself when I was her age! She loves to read, loves school, is crazy helpful around the house, super super responsible, acts like a mini-mom to her sisters sometimes, notices lots of little details, can tell if someone is feeling off, is very precocious, and loves playing basketball.

Guys. I was JUST like that when I was 11 years old. Physically, she looks a ton like me at her age too.

I guess it helps that we are both the oldest kid in the family, and have super classic oldest child traits 😉

Also she wants so badly to be 6 feet tall, just like I am.

Basically, I birthed a carbon copy of myself 😅👌

Operation "Get ourselves some hiking practice to prep for this summer" has commenced!! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

We told the kids that we need to do a lot of hikes over the next 6 weeks to prep for our big road trip this summer, but honestly * I * need the practice hikes just as much as any of the kids 😜

Ideally we'd do one hike a week plus walks around the neighborhood a few times a week. Will we be able to do anywhere close to that amount of prep?? Will that be enough up toughen everyone up for the summer? TIME WILL TELL

Definitely the whitest person (and also most covered 😅 - Brazilians love a skimpy bikini) on this Brazilian beach ⛱ 😎 😉

About 2.5 hours from Rio de Janeiro is this beach paradise in Arraial do Cabo. This particular beach is Pontal do Atalaia - you have to walk down a bunch of steps to reach the sand, but the stairs are super cute!

We did this area as a day trip from Rio -- the views and clear water made the long drive so worth it!
