10 Amazing Hotels Near the Arc de Triomphe For Any Budget

Looking for the best hotels near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris? I’ve got you covered – read on for the full list!

I’ve been to Paris six times now, and staying near the Arc de Triomphe is, in my opinion, the BEST place to stay in Paris, particularly for a first time visitor. This area is truly my top choice of where to stay in Paris, for several reasons.

Why the Arc de Triomphe is the best area to stay in Paris:

✔️First, the metro location can’t be beat. The metro station Charles de Gaulle – Etoile is right under the Arc de Triomphe, and several lines (Lines 1, 2, and 6) go through that station.

Metro Line 1 takes you right though the center of the city and past many popular tourist attractions, including Place de la Concorde, the Jardin de Tuilerires, the Louvre, right by Hotel de Ville (which is not far from Notre Dame), and Place de la Bastille and the Marais.

Metro Line 6 takes you to right to the Eiffel Tower (you can get off at Trocadero, Passy, or Bir-Hakeim). If you’re ever seen pictures or videos of crossing the Seine on the metro with an incredible view of the Eiffel Tower, that’s on Metro line 6 between Passy and Bir-Hakeim.

Finally, Metro Line 2 takes you straight to Montmartre and Sacré Coeur.

This is really one of the best spots in Paris to easily connect to so many places in the city. Of course, the metro system in Paris is incredible and it’s not hard to transfer between lines, so you can still get around easily no matter where you stay, but it’s just particularly convenient, and faster, from near the Arc de Triomphe.

✔️Second, you’re within walking distance of several big attractions in Paris. Obviously, you’re by the Arc de Triomphe, but also the Champs Elysées. Depending on the hotel and its exact location, you could also be within walking distance of the Seine, the Eiffel Tower, or Parc Monceau (one of my top favorite parks in Paris!).

✔️Third, the architecture in this part of the city is really beautiful.

✔️Fourth, despite the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elyées being pretty big tourist attractions in Paris, once you get few blocks away from these sites, the area is actually fairly quiet and more residential.

Practical Information About Hotels in Paris

When to Book Your Hotel for Paris

Paris is, of course, a popular destination, and so I would highly recommend you book your accommodations as soon as possible. Hotels really can get booked up many months in advance, particularly if you are traveling between April through October, or December.

A Few Important Notes About Hotels in Paris

➡️Generally speaking, hotel rooms in France are much smaller (we’ll just call it cozier) than hotel rooms in the United States. Because these are old, historic buildings, the rooms are just a bit tighter and there is definitely less floorspace.

This, of course, depends on the hotel and also the type of room you book (e.g. suites have much more space than a standard room). But standard rooms are much more cozy than standard rooms in the United States. This is just something to be aware of!

➡️On the same note, expect elevators to also be very tiny – and not all places have elevators. I actually really love the teeny tiny elevators in France – they’re such a novelty!

➡️Speaking of elevators, in France, what is called the first floor is actually the story above ground level. So, what we would consider the 2nd floor in the United States is the 1st floor in France. Ground level is known as “le rez de chaussée” (pronounced: luh ray duh show-say). In an elevator, sometimes le rez de chaussée is abbreviated “rdc”. It’s also sometimes just labeled as the “0” floor.

Breakfast at Parisian Hotels

You should know that in Paris (and in France in general), free breakfast at hotels is exceptionally rare. Breakfast is an extra cost, and can be quite expensive. If you’d rather not pay the extra for breakfast at the hotel, you can always stop by the nearest boulangerie (bakery) and pick up some pastries to go.

Pastries usually cost anywhere from 1 -3 euro, depending on what you get, and is a delicious, inexpensive, and authentic way to enjoy breakfast in Paris.

There are also cafés everywhere in Paris where you can enjoy a sit-down breakfast. While this is more expensive than just swinging by a boulangerie, you’ll also get a classic Parisian experience. Depending on the location, cafés can also be less expensive than a hotel breakfast!

Boulangeries and cafés are everywhere in Paris, but you can always ask the hotel reception where the closest ones to your hotel is located.

The Arrondissement System

If you’re not suuuuuper familiar with the arrondissement system in Paris, basically, an arrondissement is a neighborhood or district of Paris. There are 20 in the city, and each one has their own “mayor” and town hall, and function as little cities within the city.

The first arrondissement starts right in the middle of Paris, and the arrondissements extend out in a spiral around the city, with the 12-20th lining the perimeter of the city.

The Arc de Triomphe sits right on the intersection of the 8th, 16, and 17th arrondissements. This list includes hotels in all 3 of these arrondissements that are close to the Arc de Triomphe.

What Are the Most Expensive and Least Expensive Months for Parisian Hotel Prices

Unfortunately, hotels in Paris just aren’t cheap as a general rule, especially if you want a well-rated hotel, and especially if you’re traveling in high season. It’s very rare to find a good hotel for under $100 during low season.

Hotels are the cheapest during the months of January, February, and March. Prices start rising in April. May and June are actually some of the most expensive months to visit, which isn’t itself surprising. What is surprising is that August is actually quite a bit less expensive than June or July. Expect prices to jump again in December.

Of course, these are just general trends, and not every hotel will follow this exact pattern.

Beyond picking your travel dates based on the best prices for hotels, the best thing you can do to save money on hotels in Paris is to book early – the best deals usually go quick!

The Wrap Up

Staying near the Arc de Triomphe is truly one of the best places to stay in all of Paris, and you’ll have a great time staying at any of the hotels on this list!
